USS Valkyrie

Welcome to the USS Valkyrie

Our Sim

The USS Valkyrie is a Centaur Class Starship. Her mission is primarily one of exploration and discovery, but she also provides emergency response and defence to the United Federation of Planets and it's citizens.

The year is 2393, and after years of rebuilding after conflicts with powers such as The Dominion & The Borg, Starfleet is ready to push back out into the unknown, throw back the veil of mystery and make new discoveries. At the same time, there are fresh challenges facing the fleet close to home, from dangers on a planetary scale to fresh tensions with bordering empires.

Based out of Deep Space Twelve, a station on the edge of Federation space, our missions can range from exploration to search and rescue to diplomacy or even combat, so there should be something for everyone. We aim to provide an engaging sim with something for every character to do. Creativity is encouraged, if you have an idea for a mission, a story or a subplot, we'll try our best to make it work within the sim.

If you're interested in joining our sim, we'd love to have you aboard, just fill in one of our applications. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Once again, welcome aboard the USS Valkyrie!

Commanding Officer

» Age Rating Increase

Posted on Tue Sep 19th, 2017 @ 6:51pm by Commander Charles Kincaid in General News

I'm very pleased to announce that we've been given permission to increase the age rating on the Valkyrie to 18+.

This is something we've been working on for a while now and will allow us much more freedom in our writing and missions, as well as letting us get much more in depth with what makes our characters tick. For the moment, we have a 90 day probationary period in which to showcase what we want to achieve with the increased rating. Please make the most of this opportunity and if there's any storylines you'd like to try with our newfound freedom, just let us know and we'll do our best to get them up and running.

Everyone, please welcome our new Chief Medical Officer, Astrid Pavone, who will be played by Ben!

This is a great time to join the Valkyrie and we've got some really exciting missions coming up that will benefit greatly from having a Doctor on-board.

Our Chief Engineer, Lieuteant Dahe'el, as played by Nate has been woth us for 6 months now, so I wanted to take a take a moment to say congratulations, and thank him for everything he's contributed so far. We're lucky enough to have a great little group of writers here and all of you are fun to write with, so let's hope the next 6 months are just as great!

» Fleet Projects

Posted on Fri Aug 25th, 2017 @ 12:38pm by Commander Charles Kincaid in General News

As you may be aware, Obsidian Fleet currently has a number of ongoing projects to change and improve several aspects of the fleet. They're looming for volunteers for the following groups.

Project Sheshat – The Fleet Lore Project

Fleet Lore’s something we’ve neglected for some time in the Fleet, yet it’s something members of the Fleet have asked about quite a lot. We’ve got quite a bit of source material available from the Founding of the Fleet which, when combined with events over the 16 years of OF and the canon events of the Trek universe such as the destruction of Hobus, will allow the team involved in this project to develop a timeline to 2394 – the current year of the Fleet. Once this baseline has been established we’ll be able to work with interested sims and Obsidian Command to develop regular lore and content updates. By presenting a revised, fleet-wide lore we’ll be able to provide CO’s with readily-accessible material to base missions from and allow sims to contribute towards the rich universe we’ve created.

Project Thoth – The Fleet Academy Rewrite

Our Academy materials were originally written 16 years ago. The world’s changed quite a lot in that time, social media’s become the new face of interaction, things like banner exchanges and toplists aren’t really used anymore and if you can work a Nova you can build a sim site. We’re still heavily reliant on email to run Academy which is cumbersome and leads to delays. This team will be looking at both CO and Cadet Academy and working with members of the Fleet Council to modernise them and get them ready for delivery via IFS2’s Online Learning component. This will allow some element of self-enrolment and self-study on both courses, making it easier for CO’s and players alike to engage and develop into better simmers.

Project Ptah – The Fleet Technology Review

Many of the ship specifications used in Obsidian Fleet have been developed in isolation from one another, leading to a mismatch within the Fleet Specifications. Other designs are no longer used. This presents a considerable body of work to the I&D department to both bring these specs up-to-date and apply a measure of consistency across specs. This group will work as a part of I&D to rebalance specs where necessary, retire designs as needed and apply a consistent approach to the development of new specifications.

As you can see, there’s plenty of opportunity to be involved and shape the future of the fleet. Three projects, each with a similar purpose – review, revise, make the fleet better.

You can apply for one of the three projects here

If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Joint Fleet Command via email or Discord.

» Task Force 47: Gold Award

Posted on Fri Aug 11th, 2017 @ 10:33pm by Commander Charles Kincaid in Sim Announcement

As you may know, the Obsidian Fleet awards have been changed recently to include Task Force Unit of Merit Awards. I'm extremely happy to announce that we've been awarded the first TF47 Gold Award for July!

I'll share Maj. Gen. Mactaryn, the TFCO's words:
This month, the Valkyrie has done a great job of
building and maintaining a solid momentum with a great deal of quality. They lost a player
and replaced them almost immediately, and it didn’t stop them hitting a whopping 44 post
count from their 7 players! Great job guys!

You've all been putting out some fantastic writing, and the new mission is going really well so far. If we can keep it going, the awards will keep rolling in.

Fantastic job everyone, I'm really proud of what we've achieved!

Ira watched the shimmering figures materialise on the transporter pad gradually gaining cohesion and appearing. It seemed to take much longer than usual, maybe because of the transwarp beaming, maybe just because she was concentrating so hard on it, the observer effect. Once the whine of the transporter had subsided,…
