Personality & Traits

General Overview Prior to his wife's death, Michael was a hard working but easy-going officer. This is no longer the case, he is now emotional withdrawn and is prone to dark moods. Currently this is not affecting his work, but I suggest he have regular appointments with the counselor on his next billet to help him get through his feelings of grief. - Lt. Cmdr Susan Murphy, Ship's Counselor, U.S.S. Nautilus. 5 April 2384.

Michael has a natural affinity for engines of any kind. Like a lot of Starfleet engineers he built models of starships as a child. He is a dedicated officer, his Marine training gives him understanding of the need of security in Main Engineering, while other Engineers see them as a hindrance he sees them as a necessity.

As stated above his wife's death has not affected his work, but this may not last.

Though born in Florida, Michael has picked up a refined Louisianan accent, which many find charming. He is broad of his family’s Louisianan roots.

Michael is humble about his accomplishments.

He is slow to anger, but if he sees others treated unfairly, he’s bound to get riled.
Strengths & Weaknesses + Reliable – Always strives to get the job done.

+Adaptable – Both as a Marine and as a Starfleet, Michael has learnt that things seldom go to plan and that one has to sometimes ‘wing’ it.

+Hardworking .

+Good leader – Will not make those under his command, do anything, he’s not prepared to do himself.

+Skilled and experienced engineer.

+Competent Close Quarters fighter.

- Is somewhat sullen since his wife's death.

- Can be stubborn.

- Can be overprotective of his daughter.

- Can be a workaholic at times.

- Not much of a pilot.
Ambitions To be a good father to his daughter.

To teach others to be excellent engineers.

To serve the Federation as best he can.
Hobbies & Interests Engineering journals - reads them religiously, to keep up to date with current technology and methods. Has even written a few articles for them.

Military history - Enjoys studying chiefly that of Earth. Would have liked to meet Edwin Rommel and discus both military tactics and engineering with him.

teaching others - loves to share his knowledge and experiences with others and feel a genuine feeling of achievement when a student understands a concept he has taught them.

Working out - Does a mixture of strength training, cardio, boxing and other martial arts.

fine bourbon - Prefers Kentucky Burbon, but will take Tennessee in a pinch.

Languages Spoken Federation Standard (English), French, Klingon and some Cardassian.

Personal History Michael was born in New Hope, Florida, the second child of Marcus and Drusilia Deveroux. As a Starfleet/Marine brat, he grew up on a multitude of vessels and instillations. When it was unpractical for him and his elder sister, Julia, to join their parents on assignment, they would stay with their paternal grandparents in New Orleans. Michael enjoyed the city and being with his family, but what he enjoyed most was tinkering in his grandfather’s workshop.

When it was time for high school Michael opted to stay in New Orleans with his grandparents. At school Michael wasn’t in the popular clique, but he had a group of close friends including Anna Lafayette.

Michael and Anna had known each other since they were children, but only started dating at high school. They broke up when Michael entered the Academy, but when he graduated, he asks her to marry him, she accepted and they were married the next year. Nine months later their daughter Chloe was born. Michael hated being away from his young family and spent time with them whenever he could.

At the Academy Michael excelled in his engineering classes and joined the Academy boxing team. One of the friends he made at the Academy was a Vulcan named Zarok, who offered to teach him how to pilot a shuttle. After several lessons, Zarok concluded that Michael was better staying on the ground.

As a Marine Engineer, Michael and his platoon would come in after a territory was secured and would construct a temporary Marine base and its ground defenses. During one mission a faulty targeting system on newly erected phaser defense tower, caused it fire indiscriminately, Michael ordered one of his men to use a drone to distract the tower, while he and two others tried to deactivate it. They ended up having to overload its power core and after ordering the others to a safe distance, he was injured in the resulting explosion.

In 2379 Michael transferred to Starfleet, believing it was safer for a man with a young family. As part of his Starfleet refresher course, Michael’s first billet was the USS Abel Tasman as a staff engineer. He learnt a lot, but his time aboard was rather uneventful.

Next he was assigned to the U.S.S. Nautilus. The Chief Engineer, Lt. Commander Thomas Baron, took an instance liking to Michael and made him his Assistant Chief.

Later during this assignment, the ship was attacked and boarded by pirates. When the pirates murdered Lt. Commander Baron, Michael took over an, the help of the engineering crew, was able to repel the boarders from Main Engineering. He was made Acting Chief.

In 2384 Anna charted a shuttle to meet him for his birthday, as the U.S.S. Nautilus was at Jupiter Station. During the trip the shuttle had to pass through the asteroid belt. The shuttle lost control and crashed into an asteroid. There were no survivors. When he was informed of the crash, he was granted bereavement leave and he went home to see his daughter who was staying with his sister and her husband.

In 2385 Michael returned to Starfleet, taking an instructor's position at the Academy, teaching Combat and general Engineering. He took this position to be closer to his daughter.

In 2393 at his daughter's insistence, he reluctantly returned to active duty and was assigned to the U.S.S. Valkyrie as Chief Engineer
